How the Lombok earthquake affects your holiday insurance cover.

Posted: Monday 13th August 2018

Reviewed: Friday 12th October, 2018

If you bought your policy before 7.00am (AEST) on 6th August 2018…

…you have cover:

  • To cancel or make changes to your holiday if your pre-paid arrangements have been affected by the Lombok earthquake  and you can no longer continue with your holiday as originally planned.
  • Under ‘Emergency medical’ if you’re overseas and have been injured or hurt.

If you bought your policy on or after 7.00am (AEST) on 6th August 2018…

…you don’t have cover for anything arising from or related to the Lombok earthquake.

As it has been widely published by many news outlets, we would not consider it to be unexpected if you or your holiday are affected by the Lombok earthquake.

If you bought your policy on or after 7am (AEST) on 7th August 2018…

…there is no cover for travel to Lombok as the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has issued a ‘Reconsider your need to travel’ advisory on their website.

You will still be covered for travel to other parts of Indonesia if a ‘Do not travel’ or ‘Reconsider your need to travel’ advisory has not been issued for those regions by the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
